Topic: Essential Web Development Skills for your Portfolio II WordPress and Weebly

The goal of this week is for all participants is to become familiar with WrodPress and Weebly.

Assignment

  • Interview a Professional draft is due 10/25 at 11:59pm on the designated Blackboard discussion board.

Asynchronous Activities on your own with some Blackboard Reporting Due Prior to Synchronous Class Meeting on 10/25

Due: Your post is due 10/24 at 7pm no Peer Commenting, but help each other in the "Hi all I need Help!" Blackboard Discussion Board throughout the week.
  1. Spend some time with WordPress--Go to en.support.wordpress.com/ and learn about WordPress and create a web site or a blog. You can choose whatever topic you want for the site or blog. If you are new to WordPress start at the "Get Started" (see below). If you do not already own a WordPress account you will need to start by creating an account by following the "Signing up and the basics" instruction at the Get Started page (see below). Once you get started with the "Signing up and the basics" the "Learn.WordPress.com" page will be a good tutorial for you. If you are already familiar with WordPress, review other topics on the "Support" page and find at least 5 new things that you did not know how to do with WordPress. Please come to class and be prepared to share your WordPress web site and a minimum of 5 new things you learned about WordPress.

  2. Spend some time with Weebly--Go to  help.weebly.com/ which will take you to the "Support Center" page and learn about Weebly, then create a web site. You can choose whatever topic you want for the site. If you are new to Weebly start at www.weebly.com to create an account (see below). Once you create an account go to the "Support Center" page and start with "Beginner's Guide"  (see below). If you are already familiar with Weebly, review other topics on the "Support Center" page and find at least 5 new things that you did not know how to do with Weebly. Please come to class and be prepared to share your Weebly web site and a minimum of 5 new things you learned about Weebly.

  3. Troubleshoot WordPress and Weebly together--We will not have any peer rotations this week; however, during the week as you stumble into frustrating moments with WordPress or Weebly post what your problem is in the "Hi all I need help!" Blackboard discussion board. Post it anyway even if you feel like you may not be able to explain what the problem is. Whether another person resolves the issue or not sometimes explaining your situation to a an audience will help you resolve your issue on your own. Throughout the week please check this discussion board to help others.

  4. Share your WordPress and Weebly Site addresses--In the designated Blackboard discussion board, create a thread to share your WordPress and Weebly sites. You can continue to modify your site after you share it.
